Republic Of Namibia
Ministry Of Health And Social Services
Message From Ministry Of
Health and Social Services'
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula
In its struggle to promote health and to reduce the effects of disease and
injury, medicine has always been a discipline that has used technology to
advance patient care and, generally, to promote the quality of life.
As medical care and health and social services delivery become more and more
difficult in the face of shrinking resources, the Ministry of Health and Social
Services must seek to employ new and innovative practices and technology.
Even though very few Ministry staff and relatively few Namibians currently have
access to the Internet, we believe that experimenting with the power of this
growing technology cannot help but contribute to the Ministry's efficient and
effective functioning.
We do not expect quick and dramatic results from the development of an Internet
Web Page and the expanded use of electronic mail and other Internet resources
by Ministry staff. But we believe that any attempts to use the great power of
the World Wide Web to increase and improve the quantity and quality of
information, and the speed at which it is available to our staff will,
ultimately, improve the quality of the services that the Ministry is charged to
deliver.
We encourage Ministry staff to try to use the powerful resources of the Internet
to support their work. And we encourage the Ministry's clients and visitors to
the Web site to suggest how the Internet's power might be employed to support
the Ministry's efforts.
