Selected data from the 1991 Namibia Population Census and the 1996 Intercensal Survey are available to be downloaded here for use by Ministry of Health units (or by anybody else who may find them useful).
Three different downloads are available. Any one can be downloaded EITHER as
a compressed, self-extracting (.EXE) file OR as a compressed (.ZIP) file.
Instructions for installing them once you have downloaded them are below.
If you choose to download the ZIPped versions, you will need an UNZIPPING
programme on your computer. If you do not have an UNZIPPING programme, you can
download the EVALUATION VERSION of WinZIP for free by clicking

2.) The 1991 Census and 1996 Intercensal Survey data as Excel (*.XLS) Version 4.0 Worksheet files.
3.) POPIT, an application that will run on any PC that allows viewing and printing the 1991 Census and 1996 Intercensal Survey data in various ways and includes a useful Population Increase Calculator which will project the population for any age group by any chosen annual percentage increase until 2030 using either the 1991 Census or the 1996 Intercensal Survey populations as the base year.
NOTE: 1. is included in 3., so if you download 3., you do not need to download 1 as well.
IF YOU CHOOSE THE .EXE DOWNLOAD... You will download a file called DBF9196.EXE. It is in a self-expanding compressed file (24831 bytes). It will be downloaded to the folder/directory you select. After you have downloaded it, you must expand it before using it. Before expanding it, you may want to copy it to the folder/directory in which you normally store .DBF files. To expand the file, double click on it (or type its name at the DOS prompt).
IF YOU CHOOSE THE .ZIP DOWNLOAD... You will download a file called DBF9196.ZIP (9061 bytes). Use your unzipping software to expand it and place it in the directory of your choice.
In either case, after expansion, you will find RGNDAT91.DBF, RGNDAT96.DBF and POPDBDES.TXT. RGNDAT91 is data for Namibia and each of its 13 regions from the 1991 Population Census, RGNDAT96 is similar data from the 1996 Intercensal Survey. The structure/field names of these two files are identical. The field names are defined in the file POPDBDES, an ASCII text file, which you may want to print for reference. The expanded file sizes are: RGNDAT91.DBF and RGNDAT96.DBF, 9052 bytes each. POPDBDES.TXT, 4470 bytes.
IF YOU CHOOSE THE .EXE DOWNLOAD... You will download a file called XLS9196.EXE. It is in a self-expanding compressed file (32385 bytes). It will be downloaded to the folder/directory you select. After you have downloaded it, you must expand it before using it. Before expanding it, you may want to copy it to the folder/directory in which you normally store .XLS files. To expand the file, double click on it (or type its name at the DOS prompt).
IF YOU CHOOSE THE .ZIP DOWNLOAD... You will download a file called XLS9196.ZIP (16615 bytes). Use your unzipping software to expand it and place it in the directory of your choice.

After you have downloaded it, you must expand it before using it. Before expanding it, you may want to copy it to the folder/directory in which you normally want to run this programme. RECOMMENDATION: Make a new folder/ directory called POPIT, copy/move POPSTUFF.EXE there, then expand it. To expand the file, double click on it (or type its name at the DOS prompt).
IF YOU CHOOSE THE .ZIP DOWNLOAD... You will download a file called POPSTUFF.ZIP (1285157 bytes). Use your unzipping software to expand it and place it in the directory of your choice. (RECOMMENDATION: Make a new folder/directory called POPIT, then copy, unzip and run POPIT from this directory.)
In either case, after expansion, you will find these files in the folder
