DOCUMENTATION CENTRE

Mission

The Documentation Centre was established in 1997 to provide the MOHSS with relevant materials for management and planning purposes. The centre receives books on a regular basis from WHO and occasionally from UNICEF, UNFPA and other organizations. HSSSP is biggest supporter of the Documentation Centre.

The Documentation Centre has three functions:

1. Reference function: to provide ready access to MOHSS policies, guidelines, project documents, NGO and donor reference documents, government legislations, budget documents, workplans and annual report;

2. Library function: to provide of technical literature, journals and Internet search.;

3. Information dissemination function: to circulate of relevant information from Internet and others sources.

Mondays to Fridays

08h00-17h00

Closed between 13H00 and 14H00

The Centre is open to everybody, e.g. our own ministry staff, other ministries, donors, agencies, students and the public at large.

The Centre is open for the use to all employers of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, other Ministries, donors agencies and University students etc.

Documentation Centre Collection

 

(1) Books

The Centre has a collection of about 1655 health and social welfare related books including reference books.

(2) Journals

The following journals are available regularly at the Centre

    1. American Journal of Public Health
    2. Health Policy and Planning
    3. Social Science and Medicine
    4. The Lancet
    5. Continuing Medical Education
    6. South African Medical Journal
    7. International Journal of Health Planning and Management
    8. International Journal of Epidemiology
    9. The New England Journal of Medicine
    10. European Journal of TM & IH

(3) Research Project Reports

Quite a number of research projects has been undertaken on health and social welfare related subjects. A collection operational and thesis research project reports are available in the Centre. Other projects registered with the Research Unit are available on request.

(4) MOHSS Documents

The Centre has available a number of documents developed by the Ministry such as policies and guidelines, budget documents, work plans and annual reports etc. Other information on the Ministry such as the number health facilities, doctors, nurses’ etc. is also available.

Other Ministerial and Donor Documents

The Centre has available a collection of reports from other ministries and donor agencies.

 

 

 

 

Services for the users

Photocopy Facility

The Centre offers on-site photocopy serve for all its users for a fee of N$0.20 per copy.

Research Database

This database provides information of all health and social welfare related research project registered with the Research Unit. By using the Research Information Database, users can get information on all health and social welfare related research project registered with the Research Unit since 1992. A guideline and assistance will be provided on how to search for the research projects.

Internet

A "sit-down" workstation, which features its own LaserJet printer and scanner, is available to everyone for the purpose of e-mail transactions and Internet searches.

 

Networking: linkage with other centres

The Documentation Centre may at times not have the requested material but, through its networking links with sister centres, could assist you. We will try to find the requested material for you.
