About the region:
The
region is bordered with Otjozondjupa region to the south, Ohangwena
region to the north, Oshana region to the west and Kavango region to
the east.
The total population is: 165612 in 2004 (projected from 2001 Population and Housing Census) people with the growth rate of 2.2. About 86% of the population are lives in rural Onandjokwe district compared to only 14% living in urban area in Tsumeb district.

The region is further characterized by a dualistic economy, with a strong formal business and commercial agriculture sector on the one hand and an under developed communal subsistence agriculture and informal business sector on the other.
Ongopolo Copper mine in Tsumeb, provides jobs of opportunities therefore attracting people from neighbouring regions to work in Tsumeb.
The region has a wide variety of wildlife. A commercial farmland game is managed by individual owners or collectively by conservancies.

The
main function of the social sector is to ensure a healthy and safe
environment, aimed at improving the living standards of the
disadvantaged and protect the rights and dignity of those affected by
prejudice and abuse.
A rehabilitation service includes physiotherapy and occupational services.
Curative Services
The division is responsible for the provision of nursing, pharmaceutical and dental services.
Districts health and social health services x 2: (Onandjokwe, Tsumeb)
The
divisions are responsible for the co-ordination, management and
implementation of activities at the district level, which includes all
the activities run by clinics, health centres and the district
hospitals.

Oshikoto
region is having a total of 22 health facilities, 1 private hospital in
Tsumeb, one state hospital Tsumeb, one mission hospital Tsumeb, three
health centres and 16 PHC clinics.
