About the region
Gobabis is the largest town in the east of Namibia with a square kilometer area of 87700.

The Omaheke region borders the Khomas region in the north, and Botswana in the east. The region is having 7 constituencies, which are Otjinene, Epukiro, Otjombinde, Kalahari, Aminuis, Gobabis and Steinhausen.

The total population is 73753 in 2004 (projected from 2001 Population and Housing Census)

Omaheke is a vast region with a diverse economic base. The most significant economy base in the region is the agricultural and tourism sectors. Both sectors compliment each other. The values adding in Agriculture sector is characterized by meat processing for local consumption and nationally export markets.

The meat Festival draws interest form a diverse group of people who come to see the various meat products. This has a socioeconomic multiplier effect that enhances tourism and creates opportunity for investors to see what the region has to offer.

Rehabilitation & Social Welfare Services
The main function of the social sector is to ensure a healthy and safe environment, aimed at improving the living standards of the disadvantaged and to protect the rights and dignity of those affected by prejudice and abuse.

Rehabilitation services include physiotherapy and occupational health services.

Curative Services
The division is responsible for the provision of Nursing, pharmaceutical and dental services.

Special Disease program

The special disease program deals with the following programs:

Management Information System (MIS)
The division is responsible for managing of information for evidence-based planning, monitoring and evaluation. This is done through the development of a sound MIS that provides information on financial, epidemiological, pharmaceutical, capital development and maintenance of facilities, human resource development, research and surveys.

District Health and Social Welfare Services x 1: Gobabis
The divisions are responsible for the co-ordination, management and implementation of activities at the district level, which includes all the activities run by clinics, health center and the district hospital.

HEALTH & SOCIAL WELFARE FACILITIES
Omaheke region consists of only one district namely Gobabis District. The district has one District Hospital, one Health Center in Otjinene and eleven clinics. There are also ten private and three social welfare institutions.
